Bengaluru Woman Blackmailed, Threatened with Explicit Videos Recorded Without Consent, FIR FIled
Bengaluru: A woman in Bengaluru has filed a police complaint against an acquaintance who allegedly recorded explicit videos of her without her knowledge and later attempted to blackmail her with the footage. The accused reportedly downloaded a hidden app onto the woman’s phone to secretly record her, using the threat of releasing the videos to extort money. The RR Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
According to the complaint, the woman, a married employee at a private firm, initially met the accused through a mutual acquaintance. Over time, their friendship grew, during which the accused allegedly installed a third-party app on her phone without her awareness, using it to capture private videos and audio recordings.
The accused reportedly had regular access to her phone, allowing him to hide the application. On one occasion, as she left her phone unattended during an urgent call, the accused allegedly activated the app to capture explicit material. Days later, he contacted her, claiming to possess her nude videos and falsely attributing them to another friend, which led the woman to suspect her friend’s intentions. Upon confronting her friend and realizing his innocence, the truth of the accused’s actions surfaced.
The woman also reported that the accused had begun pressuring her to leave her husband, criticizing him for alleged drinking habits and professing his own interest in her. Despite her refusal, the accused continued sending inappropriate messages on WhatsApp, ultimately threatening to release the footage if she did not comply with his demands. According to the complaint, on September 7, he invited her to his room under the pretense of discussing the situation and then allegedly forced himself on her.
The RR Nagar police have registered an FIR against the accused and are actively pursuing further investigation into the case.
